Creating True Change Together
The EBA stands together with any individual or community of individuals who non-violently struggle to overcome any form of injustice, oppression, disenfranchisement or racism. The EBA leadership pledges to engage in the difficult discussions to better understand our collective privilege, to elevate and empower those of us who are less privileged, and to foster a more equitable, inclusive and diverse EBA.
To begin our support, the EBA Board of Governors have unanimously approved the following:
- Donation of $500 to the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition in partnership with Northside Funders Group of Minneapolis (a group helping to rebuild businesses in North Minneapolis impacted by recent events related to the George Floyd killing).
- Revision of our strategic goals to include enhancing and developing greater diversity within the EBA.
- Creation of a committee to be made up of minority members. The committee will meet quarterly (at a minimum) and report to the Board with recommended actions to assist in increasing the number of members and engagement opportunities for minorities within EBA.
In the hope that true change begins at home, we are asking our EBA members to join us. You can start by looking around the EBA, and within your own organizations and nominate individuals to serve on the committee. We seek minority voices, including anyone who has experienced oppression due to race, gender, creed, or sexual orientation.
If you wish to help us express our support outside of the EBA, please consider a donation to the above fund or another of your choice, either as an individual or as an organization. Consider this as an EBA GIVES BACK initiative. We will gladly compile a listing of donors, amount donated and recipients, to be promoted on our website and in future announcements. Akemi Berry and Meghan Maltby of Vieau/GZA are our EBA Gives Back co-chairs for this effort. Further announcements are forthcoming.

EBA Gives Back Statement - Vieau Associates, a Division of GZA
We at Vieau adore our Minneapolis home and our hearts were torn apart watching the murder of George Floyd and the resulting protests and riots. What really pulled us through was watching all of the helpers - the people donating their time, money, and expertise in the darkest moments to make sure community members had access to their basic needs. As a collective, Vieau understands that everyone has a part to play in rebuilding our home and addressing the inequities in our community. Vieau decided that we could use the tools and position we hold in our industry to be part of both immediate and lasting efforts for change. As such, Vieau banded together with our new coworkers at GZA to raise money to support organizations with a history of community advancement and development. We are hoping that you will join us on our mission, and look at your own communities, to see where you can donate your time, money, and expertise.
