The Environmental Bankers Association provides the forum for financial institutions and their service providers to address environmental issues. Through the Member Development Groups, EBA members may access learning materials, such as tip sheets, and participate in regular calls and webinars to learn, discuss and shape the emerging issues in the environmental banking industry.


Monitors policies and practices used by the financial industry related to environmental risk management. Includes policies for credit transactions, pre-foreclosure, owned real estate typically acquired through foreclosure (OREO), as well as bank-owned facilities, branches, and operations centers. Facilitate group discussions and produce tip sheets on various risk management techniques including application of appropriate types of due diligence, emerging environmental risks, deal structure to mitigate risk, indemnities, insurance, risk tolerance, policy development, vendor management, and more.

Monitors regulatory and legal changes pertaining to the environment and financial institutions. Reviews industry legal activities and case studies from a lending perspective and also as pertaining to trusts and asset management. Facilitates group discussions related to briefs, opinions, case studies, and articles as they relate to legal, banking, and trust issues, including environmental due diligence, management of assets, acquisition and dispensation of assets, bank liability, policies, and more.

technical/ ASTM

Monitors technological developments and practices used by the financial service industry and environmental service companies providing assessment and cleanup services. This includes industry standards promulgated by EPA, state agencies, and ASTM. Facilitates group discussions and tip sheets pertaining but not limited to due diligence methods such as Phase I and Transaction Screen assessments, historical research and data gathering techniques, Phase II sampling methodologies and interpretation, Phase III remediation techniques, quality control and verification of assessment quality, emerging environmental issues, and more.

Monitors and reports on environmental sustainability related issues as it affects the financial sector, including findings regarding climate change, impact reduction, and industry trends around environmental and social risk governance, optimizing operations and resource reductions, and general environmental sustainability best practices. Keeps members up to date and provides interesting, innovative speakers to keep us current in this evolving field. Provides a way for sustainability professionals in the financial sector to add additional value to our organizations through a better understanding of emerging environmental and social risk conditions in the global landscape.
